Inger yancey, founder & president

Inger Staggs Yancey is a LEED Accredited Architect and a Green Roof Professional (GRP) who has more than 30 years of experience creating sustainable architecture.  Inger founded Brooklyn Greenroof LLC to provide green roofing services in a design/build capacity to those interested in reducing their energy bills and swiftly decreasing their carbon footprint.

Inger has been active in the design and installation of Urban Green Infrastructure in New York City since 2008.  She has worked in California, Massachusetts, New York, and Washington.  Because education is so important in this newly developing field, Inger lectures on environmental subjects including Urban Agriculture, Green Infrastructure, Green Roofs, and Stormwater Management.  She teaches in an Environmental Sustainability program at Pratt Institute, and has lectured on these subjects for the Southeast New York Stormwater Conference, the Newtown Creek Visitors Center lecture program, as well as other private venues.

Inger graduated from Harvard University Graduate School of Design, where she earned a Masters degree in Architecture.  At UC Berkeley she received a Bachelors degree in Environmental Design.  She is a New York and Washington state registered Architect, and also maintains a NYC Contractor License.  Perhaps more important, she is registered with the NYC Dept. of Buildings, which allows her to easily and inexpensively apply for and obtain the NYC Green Roof Tax Abatement for clients.  Inger is also well versed in applying for and winning the Green Infrastructure Grant for her clients from the NYC Dept. of Environmental Protection.

Inger and her husband lived in Seattle for 13 years before moving to New York in 2005.  They are currently raising their three boys in Brooklyn Heights, next door to the house where her husband was raised.
